Which electrical appliances are suitable for Isolation Transformer?

2025-11-07

Applicable Electrical Appliances for Isolation Transformer

1. Medical and Laboratory Equipment: Provides complete electrical isolation, preventing interference from grid noise and transient surges to precision instruments, improving equipment safety and reliability.
2. Communication and Data Center Equipment: Suppresses EMI/RFI in high-frequency signal environments, ensuring stable power supply to critical network hardware such as servers and routers.
3. Industrial Automation and Control Systems: Isolates high-power control units such as PLCs, servo drives, and frequency converters, reducing the impact of ground loop noise on the system.
4. Audio/Video and Audio Amplifiers: Reduces electromagnetic interference through isolation, protecting the purity of audio signal links and preventing noise from entering the audio system.

How to Choose an Isolation Transformer with Appropriate Power?

1. Calculate the Actual Load Power
First, calculate the rated power of all equipment to be powered, and take the maximum value or cumulative power as the baseline load.
For three-phase systems, the total power can be obtained by multiplying the maximum phase power by 3.
2. Consider Power Factor and Loss Factors
Transformers inherently possess iron and copper losses, which increase with load. When selecting a transformer, these losses must be factored into the total power, typically using a power factor of 0.8 for correction.
3. Add a Safety Factor
To mitigate the impact of long-term temperature rise, ambient temperature changes, and potential future load increases, a safety factor of 1.25 to 1.5 is usually multiplied by the calculated power.
4. Refer to Standards and Certification Requirements
Confirm that the selected transformer complies with quality and environmental certifications such as ISO 9001 and RoHS, ensuring that materials and manufacturing processes meet high-temperature and durability requirements.
If used in specialized industries (such as medical), it must also meet relevant industry safety standards (such as IEC 60601).
