How to maintain a step-up transformer?

Key Points for Step-up Transformer Maintenance

1. Regular Inspection and Cleaning

Visually inspect the transformer casing every six months to confirm there is no visible corrosion, leaks, or external damage.

Use a dry, soft cloth to remove dust from the surface to prevent dust accumulation and poor heat dissipation.

2. Insulation and Oil Quality Monitoring

For oil-immersed transformers, regularly extract oil samples for dielectric dissipation factor (DF) and dissolved gas analysis (DGA) to promptly detect signs of insulation degradation or internal discharge.

For dry-type transformers, check the integrity of materials such as the insulation paper and epoxy resin to ensure they are free of cracks or moisture.

3. Temperature Rise and Load Monitoring

Install temperature sensors or thermocouples to monitor winding temperature in real time to ensure that temperature rise does not exceed the design rating.

Use a load monitoring system to record operating current and power to prevent long-term overload operation that may shorten service life.

4. Wiring and Grounding Inspection

Regularly check all terminals and fasteners for looseness to ensure reliable electrical connections.
